A brazen daylight hijacking of a red Toyota Allion motorcar PMM 9484 occurred Monday in front of Banks DIH Limited in Georgetown. The stolen car is owned by 29-year-old Anil Singh, a driver/salesman employed with the company.

Singh, a father of two of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara told the News Room that security footage from the company shows a male exiting a red X Trail vehicle, license plate PYY 846, at about 14:30h on Monday.

The male was observed bracing the driver’s side of the car for about five minutes and after he managed to open the door, he sat inside for another ten minutes before driving off.

Singh then explained that the X Trail was spotted at the Demerara Harbour Bridge minutes after he made a social media post; he and a rank from the Criminal Investigations Department headed to the Harbour Bridge but the suspect saw them and escaped.

“The CID rank and me head up to the Harbour Bridge and we saw the car and he [the suspect] saw my work ID and sped off,” Singh said.

The Guyana Police Force has since set up roadblocks and alerted all police stations.

Singh explained that he would usually tally his sales for the day and on the day in question, he went inside the building for about 20 minutes during which the car was stolen.

“The car was gone and I report it to the security and she made a report to the senior security and after that I went to Ruimveldt Station to make a report.”

The car has an alarm but Singh said it was not activated because any vehicle that passes sets off the alarm and it had become a nuisance.

“I never really expected something like this to happen.

“I have that car for the past three years…it’s a family car, my kids love that car and now I don’t know what to do,” Singh said.

“If anybody out there see my car anywhere….please give me a call or the nearest police station,” the man pleaded.

Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of the car can contact +592 621 5517, +592 642 3617, +592 220 0290 or the nearest police station.
