One arrested for beating, robbing construction workers

A 21-year-old unemployed male was on Tuesday arrested at the Soesdyke Junction, close to an hour after he and two accomplices tied up, beat and robbed two construction workers at Guy America Housing Scheme, Hill Foot Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Police said at around 05:00h, the workers were on duty at the Housing Scheme when they were approached by three males who held them at gunpoint and demanded one excavator sensor/monitor.

A scuffle ensued and the three suspects tied up the workers and beat them about their bodies.

The suspects then removed the excavator sensor from a parked excavator and made good their escape.

However, acting on information received, police said at about 05:50h, the suspects were seen at Soesdyke Junction.

Police managed to arrest one of the suspects, a 21-year-old unemployed male of Kuru Kururu Soesdyke Linden Highway who was found hiding in a yard.

A monitor and a toy gun were dropped by the men, police said.
