Hetmyer and Paul dominate CPL stats after three days
By Avenash Ramzan
Guyana Amazon Warriors pair Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul are featuring prominently in the individual stats after three completed days of Hero Caribbean Premier League 2020.
Friday is a well-deserved rest day for the players after six games and the franchises having an opportunity to play two matches each, all of which took place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Left-hander Hetmyer, who has displayed imperious form, is the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 134 runs at a strike rate of 152 in two innings, both of which produced half-centuries.
Two other batsmen have over 100 runs- Trinbago Knight Riders’ opener Sunil Narine with 103, including back-to-back fifties, and Jamaica Tallawahs’ New Zealand opener Glenn Phillips with 102.
Hetmyer’s 43-ball 71 in the Warriors three-wicket win over St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots is the competition’s highest individual score. He also has the most boundaries (10) and the joint-third most sixes with Jason Holder (5). Phillips (7) leads the Maximums column, with Narine (6) second.
Paul, who has varied his pace cleverly this tournament, has the most wickets thus far (5), and the best bowling figures, 4-19 against Patriots, which earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.
Barbados Tridents’ New Zealand left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner has the best economy rate, going at 4.50 runs per over.
In terms of the points table, the League’s most decorated franchise, three-time champions Trinbago Knights, are sitting in pole position on the maximum four points after wins over Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica Tallawahs.
Four other teams are locked on two points each after a win and a loss, and when net run rate comes into play, Guyana Amazon Warriors are second, followed by St. Lucia Zouks, Jamaica Tallawahs and Barbados Tridents.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, the only side yet to taste victory, sit in the cellar position without a point.
The League continues on Saturday with a double-header at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. At 10:00h, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots take on St. Lucia Zouks and at 14:15h, Guyana Amazon Warriors face Jamaica Tallawahs.
