Update: Father of 3 killed in highway accident

Kevon John Newland, a father of three of Wisroc, Linden was killed in a horrific accident on Saturday when the car he was in collided with a lumber truck on the Kuru Kuru Public Road along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway Saturday.

Orin ‘Six Head’ Rose who was the driver of the car HC 6304, a passenger Shemron Niles and an unknown female passenger received injuries about the head and body.

The female passenger managed to escape from the scene but Rose is currently admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a stable condition while Niles was treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and sent away.

Keon Newland, brother of the deceased told the News Room that his brother traveled to Georgetown on Saturday to pay his [Keon] car installment.

The father of three operated a livestock business in the mining town of Linden.

“He was just a good person,” Keon told the News Room Saturday.

The News Room understands that about 11:20h the car was heading in the direction of Linden, when it overtook another car PLL 182 which had slowed to allow the truck to turn.

As a result, Rose who was speeding, lost control and collided with the left rear wheel of the truck, drifted and then collided with the right side of the truck.

The driver and passengers were picked up and taken to the Diamond Hospital in a Guyana Defense Force Ambulance. Newland was pronounced dead on arrival.

The driver of the truck is in Police custody assisting with the investigation and both vehicles are lodged with the Police.
