A 63-year-old man of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown is missing and feared dead after the boat he was in sank at Gatie Falls, Semang Creek, Middle Mazaruni River Monday night.
Clement Morgan along with the captain, 49-year-old Marvin Andrews, a miner of Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara and Sanaika Jacobs were heading towards Semang Backdam after visiting the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) office at Issano.
Police Headquarters in a statement said the boat’s engine stopped working and subsequently sank at about 20:30h Monday while they were navigating through the Gatie Falls.
The Guyana Police Force stated that Andrews and Jacobs managed to swim to safety but Morgan could not be found and remains missing.
The area is being searched and ranks have been dispatched to the scene.
