Residents in Lust-en-Rust, Parfaite Harmonie West Bank Demerara will soon benefit from the installation of 30 street lights that will bring some amount of relief to the residents.

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water Susan Rodrigues during a visit to the area last week was told by residents that the lack of street lights pose a great security risk to life and property.

Twenty lights valued at US$10,000 were donated by GAICO Construction and General Service Inc. and the other 10 by La Rose Electrical Supplies and Construction Services.

“When I was here last week, some women complained that because of the condition of the roads, taxi drivers refuse to take them to their exact destination and they are fearful of walking these streets because of poor lighting and robberies which have been occurring in the community,” Minister Rodrigues said.

La Rose Electrical will be spearheading the installation process for the street lamps over the coming days.

Recently, there has been an increase in the theft of street lights in the area; as such La Rose Electrical will be engraving a distinct mark of ownership on each lamp to guard against this.

GAICO construction has also commenced the grading of some key access roads within the community.

Meanwhile, Lust-en-Rust is now benefitting from water supply after five years.

The community was developed five years ago by the Central Housing and Planning Authority and about 500 persons have since taken up house lots in the area.
