Guns, ammo found in house occupied by Berbice taxi driver and family

Police on Tuesday seized a number of illegal weapons and ammunition from the home of a 27-year-old hire car driver of Springlands Village, Corentyne Berbice and arrested him, his wife and her grandparents.

Police Headquarters in a statement said ranks seized a black and brown Polymer 80.Inc .9mm pistol,  a magazine containing four live rounds, one SA sports outdoor gear bow with an arrow, a12 gauge shotgun wrapped in black plastic with scotch tape and a black Powerline Air Gun (9mm) with gas and pellets.

These items were found in the Springlands home of the taxi driver; Police said the property is owned by the grandparents – ages 72 and 76 – who occupy the lower flat, while the upper flat is occupied by the taxi driver, his wife and their five-year-old daughter.

A further search was conducted at a house owned by the taxi driver at #76 Village Corentyne Berbice where two holsters and a pistol cleaning kit were also found.

The pensioners were questioned and released on self-bail while the couple’s daughter remains in the care of a relative.
