Baksh to lead Blairmont Cricket Club interim body
The Blairmont Centre Cricket Club, a founder member of the Berbice Cricket Board and the Guyana Cricket Board’s Club-of-the-Year 2018, has selected an interim body to govern its business until the next Annual General Meeting, which is due in January 2021.
On Thursday, the players, members and parents met under strict COVID-19 guidelines and selected the former President Shabeer Baksh to lead the interim body. Baksh previously served as President from 2010 to 2018.
His Deputy will be Region Five Educational Officer for Secondary Schools, Sadiek Ishmael, while Kevon Jawahir will serve in the capacity as Junior Vice-President and Treasurer. Young active member Anthony Sukra, awaiting Caribbean Examination Council results, will fill the Secretary post.
Seon Glasgow Jr. will take up the challenges of Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
Baksh promised to be committed to his role and work along with everyone for the betterment of all members, the community and the club.
He congratulated all the members on their appointment and wished them well. Baksh said he is overwhelmed by the presence of youth on the body.
In reflecting on his successes and failures as President, Baksh said he looks forward to improving the Club and maintaining high values among members.
Ishmael, on the other hand, brings managerial and leadership skills to the body.
In addition to his knowledge of cricket and educational experience, Ishmael plans to work with the Club to have a mentorship programme so as to produce all-round individuals, especially at the youth level.
The body has made a timeline of before September 1 to assign relevant council members and committees.
