Businessman held at gunpoint; robbed of cash, phones

The owner of Andy’s Variety Store at Linden Drive, Melanie, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on Friday night robbed of two cellphones valuing $105,000 and $300,000 in cash.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the store owner, 42-year-old Andrew Jacobs was at his shop around midnight when he noticed two identifiable males approaching him – one armed with a chrome colour handgun looking like a pistol.

The victim told the Police that at the time, he was waiting for a taxi and was not opened for business.

Jacobs told police that as the suspects moved closer, one stopped a short distance away while the other approached him and demanded that he hand over his money while pointing the gun at him.

Jacobs handed over a black plastic bag to the bandits.

The bag contained $300,000 in cash, one A50 cellular phone valued at $100,000 and a Digicel phone valued at $5000.

Police said no shots were fired and no one was injured.
