Taxi driver jumps intersection, crashes into TSU rank

A Police Constable stationed at Tactical Services Unit (TSU) is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after a taxi driver failed to stop at the intersection on Vlissengen Road and Norton Street, Georgetown and crashed into him on his motorcycle.

The accident occurred at about 13:15h on Friday.

Police in a statement said 23-year-old Steffon Beckles was driving motorcycle CG 4137 when it is alleged that motor car HB 9969 driven by a 68-year-old taxi driver, Godfrey Lammy, failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the right side front fender of the motorcycle.

As a result of the collision, Beckles fell off the motorcycle and received injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

He was picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited citizens and placed in an ambulance which transported him to the GPHC. Beckles was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted a patient in the male surgical ward suffering from head injuries.

The driver of Albouystown, Georgetown was arrested and remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
