Toddler dies after motorcyclist crashes into teenager

Police are investigating a fatal accident which claimed the life of one-year-old Nesiha Alexander at Kariako Village, Barama River, North West District (NWD) Region One.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, the child was in the arms of her 13-year-old sister, Charmaine Samuels who was standing at the corner of the road on Wednesday evening.

It is alleged that at about 19:30h, a motorcycle driven by 25-year-old Cain James, crashed into the teenager and resulted in the toddler pitching out of her arms.

The toddler fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries to the head and body; she was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken home and then to the Kumaka District Hospital by her parents where she was pronounced dead at about 09:00h on Thursday.

The body is presently at the Moruca District Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.

A report was made to the Police on Friday.

The motorcyclist is yet to be arrested as police are preparing the visit the remote area.
