Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Kishan ‘Rocky’ Persaud who was chopped to his neck on Saturday night at Craig, East Bank Demerara.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Persaud of Busbie Dam, Craig, was driving his car in the same area and was about to turn into First Street Craig when his path was blocked by a cart packed with fruits and vegetables.

“As a result, he exited his vehicle and asked the suspect to remove his cart to allow him to pass, but the suspect refused to do so which resulted in an argument between them,” Police noted in their statement.

It is alleged that the suspect then armed himself with a cutlass which was concealed in his cart and dealt Persaud a chop to his left side neck after which he escaped. The incident occurred at about 21:30h.

Police said Persaud drove himself to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where died about 22:30h while receiving medical treatment.

The suspect was later arrested by the Police at his home; he remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
