90-Y-0 ECD man beaten to death

Police are investigating the murder of 90-year-old Sukhnanan Dugi known as Henry whose body was found in a pool of blood at his Lot 6 Hope Lowlands Public Road, East Coast Demerara home on Tuesday morning.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that Dugi lived alone; his body was discovered by his niece lying under the kitchen sink with his head and upper body covered in what appeared to be blood.

There were bloodstains on the floor in the vicinity of the sitting room and the kitchen.

The Police found two open wounds to the back of the elderly man’s head, another wound to the right side of his face and swelling to the left side of his face with wounds also on his right hand and wrist.

A piece of wood, suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered along with a bloodstained piece of cloth on the floor.

According to the Police, the interior of the house did not appear to have been ransacked and there were no signs of forced entry observed.

The Police statement noted that he was last seen alive around 16:00h on Monday by his niece who alleged that she would visit him on a regular basis to cook, wash and clean.

When she returned on Tuesday at 11:00h, she made the gruesome discovery.
