Everest CC congratulates President Nadir on becoming Speaker

The Everest Cricket Club on Tuesday afternoon congratulated its President Manzoor Nadir, who was earlier in the day elevated to the post of Speaker of the National Assembly.

On Tuesday September 1st, 2020 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, President of Everest Cricket Club (ECC) Manzoor Nadir took the oath to serve as Speaker of the National Assembly of Guyana. The long-serving politician returns to the National Assembly after an absence of five years.

As leader of The United Force (TUF), Mr. Nadir first entered the National Assembly as an opposition member in 1992 and served until 2001. He then crossed over to the government side of the House after accepting the role of Minister of Tourism from 2001 to 2006 then Minister of Labour from 2006 to 2011.

Over the years, Mr. Nadir has been an active member of one of the leading sporting facilities in the nation, the Everest Cricket Club, where he kept active especially on the table-tennis table. At the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in 2018, Mr. Nadir was elected to serve as Treasurer and took the club to a better financial position after a successful term.

In 2019 and 2020, the club’s membership placed more confidence in Nadir in electing him to serve as President of the historic organisation. Despite the many challenges, Nadir has spearheaded a good team at Everest to maintain the high standards on and off the field making the club the venue of choice for many sporting and cultural events.

The executives, members and staff of Everest Cricket Club wish President Manzoor Nadir well in his new role and believe that with his experience, vision and credibility he will serve well as Speaker of the 12th Parliament.
