South Ruimveldt businessman shot during argument

Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 70-year-old South Ruimveldt, Georgetown man who was shot on Wednesday in front of his establishment.

A statement from Police Headquarters revealed that the victim, who is a licensed firearm holder, was sitting on a chair in front of his establishment in South when he was confronted by two suspects at around 12:10h.

It is alleged that an argument quickly ensued and escalated into a physical altercation during which the businessman was relieved of his firearm and shot by one of the suspects.

Police said the businessman collapsed on the ground while the suspects escaped on a bicycle with his firearm.

The businessman was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he underwent surgery and is said to be in a serious condition.
