Speeding Tacoma that was overtaking vehicles kills pedal cyclist

Navindra Doray, a 40-year-old resident of Block ‘F’ Sophia, Georgetown who was riding his bicycle on the Bel Air Public Road died on the spot Thursday afternoon after a speeding Tacoma pickup crashed into him at around 13:00h.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the pickup was being driven by a 25-year-old Trinidadian national who lives at Oronoque Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.

Police said that Doray and the pickup were proceeding west along the southern side of the road in the vicinity of Yokohama Auto Sales; the pickup which was speeding, proceeded to overtake several vehicles on the inside and in doing so collided with the pedal cyclist and then lost control and collided with the concrete fence of the auto sales, turned turtle and ended up on the center of the driveway on its right side.

Doray suffered severe injuries to his head and body; the driver and a 32-year-old male occupant of the pickup received injuries about their bodies.

They were all picked up and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by EMTs; Doray was pronounced dead on arrival.
