A 21-year-old miner of Uitvlugt West Coast Demerara (WCD) was on Wednesday arrested in Region Two after he was found with 128grams of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Police said the man was a passenger in a motor pickup driven by a 30-year-old of Onderneeming Sand Pit, Essequibo Coast, en route to Big Hope Backdam, Waini River. There were other occupants in the vehicle.
The pickup was stopped at the 70km checkpoint in the Region Two Division where a search was conducted on the persons but nothing was found. However, police said a search of the vehicle unearthed 128grams of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis which was discovered wrapped in a transparent plastic.
The miner took ownership of the parcel.
He was then told of the offence and arrested and is being processed for court.
