Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal has revoked the appointment of the entire Board of the Central Housing and Planning Authority, including that of the Chairman Apostle Elsworth Williams.

The revocation of the appointments was published in the Official Gazette and dated August 29th, 2020.

According to that published document, the revocations were done pursuant to the powers vested in the Minister of Housing in accordance with Section 4 (2) of Cap 36:20 and Sections 4 (5) of Cap 36:20 of the Housing Act.

“I hereby revoke the appointments of the following members of the Board of Directors of the Central Housing and Planning Authority with immediate effect,” the letter signed by Minister Croal noted.

Among the other members whose position on the Board were revoked are: Glenyss James, Thandai McAllister, Khemlall Alvin, Elton Patram, Dale Browne, Kenneth Jordan, Cleveland December, Herman Persaud, Winifred Heywood, Akeem Peter, Chattergoon Ramnauth, Imran Amin, Waneka Arrindell, Kenneth Willimas, Juan Hunter and John Macedo.

When contacted Minister Croal would only confirm that the Board members were relieved of their duties and that a new board will be installed shortly.

The life of this current Board should have expired in early 2021.

News Room was informed that the revocation of the appointments were done because the Board consists of a number of political appointees appointed by the previous APNU+AFC government.

The newly appointed PPP Ministers don’t feel that the Board is committed to the implementation of PPP’s policies and programmes for the housing sector.

Minister Croal had previously said that he was only interested in working with professionals to move the sector forward.
