Harbour bridge closed to heavy vehicular traffic

A major structural component of the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) has failed leading to the closure of the bridge to heavy traffic.

The News Room understands that trucks and other heavy vehicles or equipment will not be allowed to cross the bridge until further notice.

This was confirmed by General Manager Rawlston Adams.

The Ministry of Public Works in a short statement noted that the issue will be fixed in hours.

Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill has since visited the site to assess the condition of the retractor span which was damaged. Additionally, the Minister has ordered the technical crew to devise timely options to resume the free flow of traffic.
