Elderly Reg. 9 man dies from COVID-19; 92 new cases recorded

Guyana on Monday recorded an additional COVID-19 related death bringing the total number of deaths so far to 47 as the number of cases has increased by 92.

The Ministry of Health revealed that the latest death is a 79-year-old male from Upper Takutu- Upper Essequibo (Region 9) who died while receiving care at a medical facility.

The test sample was collected from the patient at the time of admission and tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently.

The Ministry did not say when the man died, where he died or whether his positive COVID-19 results came back before his death.

Meanwhile, with the 92 new cases, Guyana’s overall COVID-19 cases is now at 1,560.

Seven new cases were recorded in Region One, three in Region Two, five new cases in Region Three, 31 in Region Four, four cases in Region Six, four new cases in Region Seven, 38 in Region Nine and three new cases in Region 10.

The Ministry revealed that these new cases include a portion of the 500 samples sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) on August 31 to help clear the huge backlog here.

There are 16 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital while there are 535 active cases in insolation – 47 in institutional isolation and 488 in home isolation.

A total of 68 persons are in institutional quarantine while 962 persons have recovered thus far.

To date, 9,762 persons have been tested.
