An 84-year-old resident from Cuyuni/Mazaruni (Region 7) has been recorded as Guyana’s latest COVID-19 fatality pushing the overall death toll to 48.
The Ministry of Health in a statement revealed that the elderly man died while receiving treatment at a medical facility; the test sample was collected from the patient at the time of admission and was tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 53 new cases were recorded on Tuesday bringing the total number of known COVID-19 cases to 1,613.
Four new cases were recorded in Region One, two in Region Two, eight in Region Three, 20 new cases in Region Four, one in Region Six, four in Region Seven, 12 new cases in Region Nine and two additional cases in Region 10.
There are a total of 519 active COVID-19 cases in isolation: 42 in institutional isolation and 477 in home isolation.
There are 74 persons in institutional quarantine and the number of recorded cases is now 1,030. A total of 10,003 persons have been tested so far.
