Two children were on Tuesday air dashed from the New Amsterdam Public Hospital to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a medical evacuation by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).

In a short statement on its Facebook page, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) for Region Six said the medical evacuation occurred at around 7pm on Tuesday.

“The runway had to be lit with vehicle lights,” the RDC said. It did not state the condition of the patients or their ages.

The RDC added that “this is the first time that the airstrip located at the back of the Rose Hall Estate has been used by the Army and the second time it has been used during the night.”

The Ministry of Health Regional Health Authorities expressed gratitude to Micheal Gouvia, Dr. Nigel Langhorne, and Emil Jahan, Management and staff of the Albion and Rose Hall Estates, Dr. Vassana Henry and team and members of the public for the herculean support during this process.

The public road from Region Six through Region Five has several roadblocks as residents in West Berbice protest the murder of two teens whose mutilated bodies were found at Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice (WCB) on Sunday last.

Efforts were made by the Police and army to clear the roadways but not long after, the debris were returned to their original position and set on fire.

The protests entered its fourth day Wednesday.
