Wife arrested for murder of husband; accused of orchestrating attack
Police have arrested the 44-year-old wife of 47-year-old Mohamed Haniff who was attacked and killed by three masked men in his lot 56 Experiment, West Coast Berbice home on Friday night.
Haniff, a taxi driver, was beaten by the bandits with a metal bar and chopped to the head while the wife sat silently and watched.
Police Headquarters in a statement revealed that the couple was home alone when the three masked men, one of whom was armed with a gun, invaded the house at about 21:00h.
They immediately pounded on Haniff and demanded cash but he told them he did not have any; after battering the taxi driver, the bandits escaped without stealing anything and left the wife untouched.
Haniff was picked up by a neighbour and rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he died at around 01:30h.
Police sources have since indicated to the News Room that the wife is in serious financial difficulties and pawned their house without her husband’s knowledge.
She is accused of orchestrating the attack on her husband while their son was not at home.
Ranks from the Major Crimes Unit have taken over the case.
