Speeding GDF pickup truck collides with motorcar on ECD Public Road

A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) pickup truck collided with a motorcar on the Bee Hive Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Sunday at about 18:45h. Police Headquarters reported that the GDF truck was speeding at the time of the accident. No one received any serious injuries.

The truck was being driven by a soldier stationed at Army headquarters, Camp Ayanganna. The truck had two other occupants. The motorcar is owned and was driven by a 19-year-old male of Greenfield North, ECD. A 67-year-old occupant and six children between the ages of 6 and 16 were also inside the car at the time of the accident.

Police Headquarters stated that the pickup truck was overtaking other vehicles on the road when the motorcar at the same time attempted to turn into the Bee Hive Access Road. This caused the two vehicles to collide and as a result both drivers lost control. The pickup truck ended up in the northern trench while the car ended up in the southern side of the trench.

The drivers and occupants of both vehicles received minor injuries about their bodied and were taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital by public spirited citizens. They were all treated and sent away. The driver of the GDF pickup tested negative for alcohol. Police investigations are ongoing.
