Guyana on Wednesday recorded another COVID-19 death bringing the overall total death toll to 59.

The Ministry of Health in a statement disclosed that an 80-year-old female from Barima/Waini (Region 1) died while receiving care at a medical facility.

The Ministry did not state when or where the patient died but noted that a sample was collected from the patient at the time of admission and was tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently.

Meanwhile, 26 additional persons were tested positive for COVID-19 bringing the overall number of known cases to 1,984.

The total includes 16 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and 607 persons in isolation.

Of the new cases, one was recorded in Region Two, five in Region Three, 15 in Region Four, two in Region Six, one in Region Seven and two in Region Eight.

The Ministry said 1,302 persons have so far recovered from the disease while 84 suspected cases are in institutional quarantine.

So far, Guyana has tested 11,359 persons for COVID-19.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO. 9) which are in effect until September 30, 2020.

This order emphasises: the need for correct and consistent use of face masks when leaving their homes, the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

If anyone is displaying any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, or need any additional information kindly contact the COVID-19 Hotline 231 1166, 226 7480 or 624 6674 IMMEDIATELY or visit us at www.health.gov.gy .
