Parliament asks Caterer to explain contaminated food

Several Parliamentarians reportedly fell ill on Monday after consuming food provided by the Parliament at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) where the 2020 Budget debate is ongoing.

As a result, Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir on Wednesday said efforts are ongoing by the caterer to find what may have caused the reaction.

According to the Speaker “several suggestions were made and the caterer is currently trying to ascertain the cause of the contamination.”

“Let me assure you that we are taking every step possible to eliminate a recurrence and to give you some answers as to what caused the effects on several members of the National Assembly.”

The issue was first publicised by APNU+AFC Member of Parliament Sherod Duncan who in a Facebook post on Monday alleged that it was only members of his party who were “poisoned.”

The Speaker on Tuesday upbraided Duncan for the post noting that the incident did not affect APNU+AFC MPs alone.

Those affected included Deputy Speaker Lenox Shuman and some Government Parliamentarians.

Sherod might be on to something……maybe it was only members of his party that rushed the buffet and had 2nd helpings? Could that have caused the “She-rod theory?”
