More funds would be allocated in the next budget to ensure the completion of the three multi-purpose sport facilities that government plans to construct.

That’s according to Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr., in his presentation at the budget debates on Thursday. The facilities are to be built in Regions Two, Six and 10.

“Our (next) budget allocation is likely to double as a result of the three multi-purpose facilities, and maybe even triple. Those facilities are going to be international facilities; they are going to be world-class,” Ramson Jr. told the House.

“We are currently preparing the concept notes, the proposals…so once that’s done we should be able to get the allocation for the next budget.”

Earlier this month, President Irfaan Ali had announced his government’s plan to build the facilities.

“To continue to support the growth and development of our young people, our sportsmen and women, in finding new talents and supporting every region of our country we’re going to build three multi-purpose sports complex in Regions Two, Six and 10,” the President said.

The President was at the time highlighting measures in the emergency budget, which was presented on September 9, 2020, and estimated at $330 billion.

A total of $805.3 million has been allocated to sport. That figure is part of a bigger sum of $2.7 billion, which has been allocated to the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

Additionally, $185 million has been allocated for the National Sports Commission to accelerate works on the synthetic tracks in Regions Six and 10, as well as the purchase of sport gear and ground enhancement.

Culture……Minister get the culture part of your portfolio going as well. Culture and cultural awareness brings ethnicities together like nothing else. Speak to people like Ruel Johnson of ignored-cultural-advisor-to-coalition-fame………he knows of what he speaks and walks de walk. Indigenous, Afro, Indo, and most important GUYANESE CULTURE needs to have a home in the Capital and a strong support from Govt. it will bring in more votes than all the other Ministries combined. Do it Sir Ramson……you are the right age group to appreciate that.
