Teen among six charged for murder of Bath Settlement man

A 16-year-old labourer of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice is among six persons who were charged with the murder of 34-year-old Prittipaul Hargobin known as ‘Roy’.

The others, also from Bath Settlement, have been identified as Marlon Dharamdai, 33; Devan Karran, 22; Jagdat Khaloo, 60 and Satahul Shivchand, 40 along with a 27-year-old truck driver, Ricardo Shiwlall of No.10 Village.

They appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and were not required to plea to the charge.

The five adults were remanded to prison while the teen was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Center. They will all appear in court again on September 23, 2020.

On September 9, Hargobin was reportedly beaten to death by the six men who were protesting along the public road at Bath Settlement.

Police Headquarters reported that Hargobin was in his motor vehicle when it was observed that he exited the vehicle with a shotgun and discharged one round into the air before discharging three rounds towards a crowd of protestors who were about 60 meters away.

As a result of his actions, he was attacked by the crowd and beaten, Police said.

Police ranks, who were some distance away, having observed the commotion, rushed to the scene where they discovered the victim lying on the ground with several injuries about his body.

He was subsequently taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
