Two elderly men die from COVID-19; death toll now at 64

The Ministry of Health has revealed that as of 17:00h on Friday two other persons who tested positive for COVID-19 have died bringing the total number of deaths so far to 64.

The latest fatalities are a 71 -year-old male from Barima /Waini (Region 1) who died while receiving care at a medical facility; the other is a 63-year-old man from Demerara/Mahaica (Region 4).

The Ministry of Health in a statement noted that samples were collected from both at the time of admission and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

“The Ministry of Health expresses sincerest condolences to the families of these persons and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.”

Guyana’s death toll from COVID-19 has increased by 50 per cent since August.
