Police are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 23-year-old Devanand Bansie, a vendor of Mon Repos Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.
Police in a statement said Bansie was killed in an alleged hit and run accident which occurred in front of his home between 02:00h and 03:00h on Saturday.
The News Room understands that Bansie celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday night. Police said after he reach home about 02:00h, his door was locked and he could not get inside the house.
At about 04:00h, he was found lying motionless on the southern side of the Railway Embankment with injuries about the body.
Paramedics examined and pronounced him dead on the scene.
The body was then taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where it awaits a post mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
