67-year-old Region One man dies from COVID-19

The Ministry of Health (MOH) Monday afternoon announced that as of 15:00hrs on September 21, 2020, one other person who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has died.

The latest fatality is a 67 -year-old man from Barima/Waini (Region 1) who died while receiving care at our medical facility. The sample was collected from the patient at the time of admission and was tested positive for COVID-19 subsequently.

Additionally, on Monday 133 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded within 24hrs, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 2, 402. There are 860 persons in home isolation, 102 institutional quarantine and 16 persons in the COVID-19 ICU.

An additional 60 persons are in institutional quarantine. 1,359 persons have recovered to date and 65 persons have died.

Region’s Four cases have now surpassed the 1,000 mark with an additional 80 cases pushing the total to 1, 053. New cases were also recorded in Region One with 24 cases, Region Two with one new case, Region Three with 19 new cases, Region Six with two new cases, Region Seven with four cases and Region Eight with one new case.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO. 9) which are in effect until September 30, 2020. This order emphasises:

  • The need for correct and consistent use of a face masks when leaving their homes
  • The importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others
  • And the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
