The President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Wayne Forde, participated in the 70th FIFA Congress last Friday.

The Congress, held Virtually for the first time due to the COVID-19 limitations, was streamed from FIFA Headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.

“The business of football must go on,” said Forde. “In these difficult times, we must keep moving forward as a show of the true power of football and not be daunted in the face of what might be one of our greatest challenges. I am indeed honoured and humbled by the opportunity to serve Guyana’s Football at these important forum.”

According to FIFA, key amendments were made as per the Congress’s agenda:

“The FIFA Congress voted to approve two sets of regulatory amendments. In line with the new global situation, the FIFA Statutes and the Standing Orders of the Congress were amended to allow future FIFA Congress meetings to be held remotely. Meanwhile, and also moving with the times, the Regulations Governing the Application of the FIFA Statutes were amended to include new provisions relating to the exceptions to the general prohibition on changing associations and the access to national-team football for stateless players.

The Congress also approved the FIFA Annual Report 2019, the detailed budget for 2021 and the revised budget for the 2019-2022 four-year financial cycle.”
