Durban St. youth arrested for possession of illegal gun


Police have arrested a 24-year-old young man of Durban Street, Lodge in connection with the possession of an unlicensed .38 revolver that contained two matching rounds.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that at about 05:00h on Wednesday, a party of Policemen on mobile patrol received information of an alleged armed robbery in the Smyth Street area.

While in the vicinity of Hadfield and Leopold Streets, they observed the young man standing along the western side of Leopold Street, who upon noticing the police vehicle dropped a black object and made several steps towards the southern side of the street.

A Police report said he was stopped and a search was conducted in the area he was first standing and a black .38 revolver containing two matching rounds were found.

He was arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police Station. Police said he is a baker of Durban Street, Lodge and remains in custody pending charges.
