West Bank family tied up, beaten, robbed by bandits

Police are on the hunt for three bandits who invaded the home of a Recht-Door-Zee, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara family Wednesday night, tied them up and robbed them of cash and other valuables.

Police Headquarters in a statement noted that the 37-year-old mechanic was standing on his verandah at about 20:00h when three men who were armed with a gun, cutlass and knife jumped his fence from a southern direction.

Police said one of the bandits pointed the gun to the mechanic’s head and ordered him to go inside, while the two other men went into the home where the victim’s wife and children were and ordered them into the living room. The suspects tied them up and started to demand cash and other items.

The mechanic took the men into his bedroom and handed over $300,000 cash, but the suspects were not satisfied and started to beat him while demanding jewellery.

The suspects ransacked the home and carted off with a number of cell phones, laptop computers, tablets and gold jewellery estimated at a total value of $1,085,500.

The Police report noted that the victim managed to free himself and raised an alarm after the men escaped.

The victim was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty and received treatment for wounds to his head and sent away.

Investigations are continuing.
