Permaul Armoogan of East Berbice-Corentyne (Region 6) will continue to serve as the Region’s Chairman following fresh elections held on Monday.
Armoogan, who was a candidate for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), has been heading the Region for the last five years.
Region 6 is consistently won by the PPP when regional elections are held.
Armoogan will be supported by a Vice-Chairman Zamal Hussain.
The two will at a later date take the Oath of Office before President Irfaan Ali and be officially sworn in.
The PPP won Region #6 at the recently concluded general and regional elections with 43,419.
This allows for the PPP to take up 20 seats on the 30-seat Council; the other 10 seats goes to the APNU+AFC which secured 20,313 votes in the region.
