The Regional Administration of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region 3) will be headed by Ishan Ayube as its Chairman.
Ayube, who served as the Region’s Vice Chairman, was elected to serve in the new position as Chairman when Councilors were sworn in on Monday.
The Region was won by the People’s Progressive Party with a total of 47,900 votes and will take up 18 seats on the 27-member Council.
The APNU+AFC coalition will occupy the other nine seats.
Ayube will be supported by a Vice-Chairman Omesh Satyanand.
Both were candidates for the PPP in the March 2020 general and regional elections; they will be sworn in officially by President Irfaan Ali at a later date.
