Of all regions, Region Two elects woman as chair
A councillor for almost 10 years, Vilma De Silva is the newly-elected Chairman of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
With elections occurring in all ten administrative regions with the exception of Region Eight on Monday, De Silva is now the only woman currently at the head of the Regional Democratic Councils.
She represents the People’s Progressive Party, having been a regional candidate for the Party in the March 02 2020 elections.
Once she takes her Oath before President Irfaan Ali, she replaces Devanand Ramdatt.
Supporting De Silva as Vice Chair is Humace Oodit, who was also a candidate for the PPP.
The PPP, having won the general elections, also won six regions, including Region #2 with 18,755 votes.
This gives the party a total of 12 seats on the 17-member Council.
The APNU+AFC secured a total of five seats.
