Port Kaituma man pleads guilty to having sex with dead COVID-19 patient

Fifty-year-old Leroy Chacon of Trainline Port Kaituma, North West District was charged on Tuesday for trespassing with the intent to commit a sexual offence on a woman who died from COVID-19.  

Chacon appeared at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Delon Bess via zoom and pleaded guilty to the offence. He was remanded to prison and have to reappear Wednesday at 9am for sentencing.

Chacon was placed in quarantine under police guard on Saturday last after he was caught performing the indecent act on the corpse of a 56-year-old woman who died on September 21 after displaying COVID-19 symptoms. A COVID-19 test later confirmed that she tested positive for the disease.

The woman’s body was being stored at the Port Kaituma Mortuary when Chacon visited the mortuary at about 07:45h and attempted to perform sex on the body.

The incident was reported to the Police and Chacon was arrested.

    So how many persons this guy come in contact with……..I guess we can assume he did not practice social distancing with deceased Covid patient? Is he going to infect the whole prison? He needs to be isolated.
