The Guyana Government has officially gazetted the 9pm to 4am curfew and has now relaxed some measures which will see a few businesses opening until 8pm.

These businesses are: banks and other financial institutions, markets, supermarkets, fruit and vegetable stalls, bulk food stores and neighbourhood grocery shops, gas stations, postal and shipping services, beauty salons and barbershops; operation, inspection, repair and maintenance of essential services including vehicles, vessels and aircraft and traffic signal maintenance; automotive repair and maintenance facilities that provide direct support to essential businesses; hardware, plumbing and electrical stores; clothing, shoes and book stores; services necessary for maintenance of residences including plumbing, electrical and extermination services.

Additionally, food services and restaurants shall be opened only for delivery, drive-thru, curb-side pickup and take away services from 4am to 8pm.

Indoor and buffet dining remains prohibited and outdoor dining at a restaurant shall only be permitted during the hours of 9am to 8pm.

Meanwhile, gyms, bars, rum shops and night clubs remain closed until October 31, 2020.

The Government has received serious flak over moving the curfew from 6pm to 6am as Guyana continues to see a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the past two months.

THIS is a smart move because it spaces out the time when people can visit a supermarket, etc so has to relieve congestion. Travel home as well is safer and less congested. Thank you Mr. President for not listening to Her Royal Highness giving all sorts of SAGE advice from the disgraced benches.
