Four employees of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) Region Six office at New Amsterdam, Berbice have tested positive for COVID-19.

The News Room understands that the samples were taken on September 29 and returned positive on October 5.

As a result, samples were taken from 11 other staff members on Wednesday who were in contact with the first four cases. Those persons were at the office from Monday to Wednesday of this week.

The GRA’s Region Six office employs 30 persons and the others are now concerned for their health.

One employee who asked to remain anonymous told the News Room that the 15 remaining employees were told to wait on another date to be swabbed for the disease.

The employees are concerned given the fact that they are all housed in an open space on one floor of the building; as such, they believe the office should be temporarily closed until everyone is tested.

Guyana has so far confirmed 3,188 cases and 98 deaths.
