GDF rank arrested after caught on camera beating Cop at Harbour Bridge

A Lance Corporal of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is in Police custody after he was caught on camera attacking and beating a Police Constable at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge on Friday.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the Police Constable 24030 Wilson was conducting Anti Crime Patrol duties at the western end of the bridge at about 20:00h and while directing the eastbound traffic which had two lanes that merged into one on the Meer-Zorgen Public Road, he observed a dark grey car trying to change lane and in the process caused congestion of the traffic.

As a result, the Constable approached the driver who he later learnt to be a Lance Corporal of the GDF Coast Guard and of Parafaite Harmonie, W.B.D.

Wilson told the driver of the offence and instructed him to pull to the corner of the said road.

According to the Police statement, the GDF rank became annoyed, exited his car and “chucked the rank.”

The Police Constable warned the driver of his behaviour and asked him to desist but he ignored and proceeded to further assault the Constable by choking him and dealing him several cuffs about his face and body, causing injuries.

The ordeal was videotaped by someone in another vehicle and shared on social media. In the said video, the driver pushed the cop to the ground and launched his vicious attack.

The GDF rank re-entered his car when the cop also attacked him.

Constable Wilson was then assisted by other ranks who managed to arrest the driver; he was escorted to La Grange Police Station and placed into custody pending investigations.

Constable Wilson was later escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and was treated and sent away for the injuries he sustained.

The GDF will deal with this……they do not tolerate such nonsense amongst their own.
