Cop shoots man in front of 7-Y-O during arrest in Albouystown

Police officers on Sunday morning shot a 36-year-old man to his left thigh, in front on his 7-year-old step-son, during his arrest at 64 James Street Albouystown, Georgetown.

The incident occurred at about 11:00h.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement said acting on information received, a party of policemen went to the home of Randy Joseph known as ‘Buxton’ who is “a known character and wanted for questioning for several robberies and larceny.”

The man’s wife, Natoya Tappin contacted the News Room and said; “this boy was home in his bed and they rushed into the room and attacked him and ended up shooting he.”

“He couldn’t move, he said ‘boss man, wuh ah do?’ They tell he shut his mouth, don’t move and go nowhere, then the Police cranked up the gun and shoot he. When they done shoot he, they pull he outside, all over the place is blood,” Tappin said.

However, the Police said Joseph was found hiding under a bed and was told to come out which he did.

According to the police’s account of the incident, “as one of the Policemen was attempting to restrain Joseph, he held on to the rank and attempted to disarm him of his service revolver and a round when off hitting Joseph on his upper left thigh.”

In a live video shared on Facebook, the man was seen sitting on a chair with a cloth tied around his left thigh; blood stains were also seen on the floor and walls of the house.

Tappin said her 7-year-old son was close to Joseph when the incident occurred and remains traumatized.

“Right now the little boy traumatized because the boy was next to he when he get shoot. Me son go to jump off the verandah all,” she said.

According to Tappin, the Police Officers are from the Ruimveldt Police station and also ransacked her house before leaving with Joseph.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is being treated.
