Drunk driver flees after crashing into Berbice business owners

Popular businessman Imran Hamid and his wife Saudia were on Monday evening rushed to a city hospital after they were struck down by a drunk driver on the Rose Hall public road, Region Six.

According to information received, the couple who owns the Imran’s Chain stores in Rose Hall Town, were on their motorcycle heading from one of their stores to the main branch when a motorcar crashed into them.

The incident occurred at about 18:00hrs. The driver of the motorcar was said to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver fled the scene and up to press time was not found.

The couple was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam public hospital where their conditions were listed as serious and they were subsequently transferred to a City Hospital.

The proprietors are well known in the town of Rose Hall after being in operation for over thirty-two years. They would usually use their motorcycle to commute the short distances.
