Woman, taxi driver busted with over 30 pounds of ganja
A 20-year-old female of ‘A’ Field Sophia and a 39-year-old taxi driver of Durban Street, Georgetown were arrested on Tuesday after they were found in possession of 33.9 pounds of cannabis.
Police in a statement said the duo were in a motorcar which was intercepted at a roadblock at Mahaicony Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The police said ranks stopped the car and searched the two persons at about 03:30h but found nothing on the suspects.
However, a search of the motorcar unearthed two large bags containing seven compressed bulky transparent plastic with leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The packages were found in the trunk of the vehicle.
The driver subsequently admitted to owning the items and as a result, they were both arrested and escorted to the Mahaicony Police Station where the suspected narcotics was weighed in their presence which amounted to 15, 412 Grams.
They remain in custody pending further investigations.
