Pastor drowns at Canal.1 Polder

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 53-year-old Pastor Maurice Wilson of Vauxhall Canal #2 Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD) who reportedly drowned on Thursday afternoon.

Wilson’s body was found floating in a creek next to his farm at Canal #1, WBD.

The man’s wife, 50-year-old Shundell Wilson, told investigators that her husband, who is also a farmer, suffered from epilepsy.

According to the police, Mrs Wilson indicated that she followed her husband by foot up to L’Oire Back Dam, where he continued his journey on foot by himself en route to his farm which is situated about 180 rods from the Number #1 Canal Road.

She said she returned to their residence but at about 18:40hours she became worried about her husband’s wellbeing and contacted a family friend who immediately dispatched a search party.

At about 19:15 hours whilst making checks, the man discovered the 53-year-old man floating face downwards in a creek to the western side of farm.

The search party contacted the family of the deceased who removed his body from the creek and summoned the Police to the scene.

No marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of the body, police said.

Investigations are ongoing.
