Essequibo Coast man dies after struck off bicycle by speeding car

Essequibo Police are investigating the death of a 59-year-old man who was struck off his bicycle by a speeding car.

Dead is Tulsiram Rajkumar, called Otam, of Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast.

Police said the driver of the car – a 57-year-old man of Golden Fleece – was allegedly speeding north and Mr Rajkumar was heading in the other direction. The driver claimed that Mr Rajkumar suddenly swerved into the path of his vehicle.

“As a result of the impact the pedal cyclist was flung some distance away to the western lane where he sustained injuries about his head and body and began bleeding profusely from his head,” Police stated.

He was subsequently picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the motor car was arrested at the scene and taken to the Suddie Police Station and placed into custody.
