An 86-year-old La Grange, West Bank Demerara businesswoman was Sunday afternoon found dead in her home with her hands and feet tied. Dead is Bibi Ramjit.
Police Monday morning said the woman lived alone at 63 La Grange Old Road. She was killed sometime between 15:00h and 17:00h. No one has been arrested.
Police said the woman lived upstairs and operated a grocery shop in the lower flat.
At about 15:00h Sunday, a 59-year-old farmer of Schoonard, WBD, went to buy eddoes from Ramjit.
Police said the shopkeeper did not have change for his $5,000 note and so he told her he would return later to pay her.
Two hours later, the man returned to the shop. Police said he noticed the shop door and the backdoor to the upstairs flat were open.
“He called out several times for the deceased but got no response. As a result, he proceeded to the upper flat of the house where he looked into a bedroom and saw the deceased lying motionless on her back on her bed with her feet and hands tied,” Police stated.
The man raised an alarm and the Police were summoned to the scene. The Police checked the body for any marks of violence but said they found none.
The Police also questioned several persons in the area but were unable to get any leads.
A post-mortem is expected to be performed soon on the woman’s body as the Police continue their investigations.
