Motorcyclist killed in Sheriff Street accident

A 68-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a car collided with him early on Monday at Sheriff and Dadanawa Streets, Campbellville, Georgetown.

Dead is Deon Martin Monize of East La Penitence, Georgetown.

Police reported that at about 05:15 hrs Monize was proceeding south along the eastern lane while the car was proceeding in the opposite direction. The car was being drive by a 43-year-old male of Mocha, East Bank Demerara.

According to reports, the car collided with the motorcycle as they approached Dadanawa Street. As a result of the collision, Monize was flung off the motorcycle and ended up in a gutter.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver of the car and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said the driver is in custody assisting with the investigation.
