Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old construction worker of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara (WCD) who on Sunday night bled to death after he was chopped to the left thigh.

A report from the police stated that Sanjay Hanoman called ‘Drill’ was reportedly standing on the road at bus-shed Street, Anna Catherina with another male, also 19-year-old, on Sunday night.

At around 23:30hrs, a 17-year-old who is Hanoman’s friend told investigators that he passed and saw the suspect rubbed a cutlass against his friend’s left thigh causing him to fall to the ground.

The suspect then rode away on a bicycle with the weapon in his hands.

The 17-year-old told the police that he went to Hanoman’s assistance where he found him bleeding profusely from the left thigh.

The friend tried to offer assistance but was unable to do so by himself.

“…no one else was willing to help transport him [Hanoman] to the hospital,”
the police said.

One hour later, Hanoman was picked up and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty who pronounced him dead.

The body was then escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post mortem examination.

Further, acting on information received, the Police went to the suspect’s home and arrested and placed him into custody.
