Cop seriously injured in Berbice accident

A Police Constable stationed at Rose Hall Town Police Outpost is in a serious condition at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital following an accident on the Number 60 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.

The accident occurred at about 21:30hr on Tuesday night.

The police in a statement said the Constable Dellon Harvey was driving his motorcar PVV 3113 at a fast rate when it is alleged that he swerved from a herd of cows on the Number 60 Public Road, collided with a concrete culvert and then crashed into a metal gate.

Also in the car was 32-year-old Standard Douglas of # 53 village, Corentyne Berbice who was seated in the front passenger seat and told investigators what happened.

As a result of the collision, the vehicle became mangled and pinned Harvey.

Public spirited citizens assisted Douglas out of the vehicle and rushed him to the  Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

However, members of Guyana Fire Service along with a doctor and nurses of Skeldon Hospital had to assist in the removal of the driver.

He was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was examined by a doctor on duty who treated and referred him to New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.
